What I always try to do in Karate training is that “reasonable”. Chojun Miyagi was born on Apin Higashi-machi (Naha-shi), Okinawa. For this, he strictly defined each technique that had been handed down orally to limited masters secretly as “Reasonable” physical movement, and explained “showing correct direction of Te” which is flexible defense and offence by the philosophical principles of “Goju (hard and soft)”. Like his teacher before him, because of his great natural talent and fierce determination, he progressed very rapidly. He began training in Karate under Higaonna Kanryo Sensei at the age of 14. When Chojun Miyagi Sensei was 11 years old he began rudimentary karate training with the Tomari-te master and famed fighter Ryoko Aragaki Sensei (1875-1961). Miyagi Chojun Sensei was born on April 25, 1888. In 1902, when Chojun Miyagi was 14 years old, he started practicing Naha-Te with Kanryo Higaonna. He was originally born as Miyagi Matsu, however his name was changed to Chojun a his age of five by his uncle, whom adopted him after his father died in 1893. The founder, Chojun who is my grandfather, tried to establish Okinawa's traditional “Te” as a modern karate. Miyagi Chojun Sensei (1888-1953) was the founder of Goju Ryu Karate.
